Socrates Digitalis — A Short Yet Endlessly Confusing Story (image created with DALL-E)

Socrates Digitalis is a modern philosopher trapped in the body of an average citizen. Much like his ancient namesake, Socrates Digitalis knew that he knew nothing, especially about writing stories. But armed with the relentless prompting of his inner voice, he set out in search of narrative enlightenment.

Socrates Digitalis typed, his room transformed. On the walls, adorned with digital screens, was a cavalcade of history’s greatest thinkers. Plato gave plot advice, Voltaire suggested witty dialog, and Camus insisted on an existential twist. Our protagonist, overwhelmed by these contradictory voices, decided to go his own way — a story about a story that refused to be written.

The story unfolds in a paradoxical world where every character is aware that they are in a story. They debated free will, consciousness, creation and authorial control, a delicious allusion to age-old philosophical conundrums. The hero, an image of Socrates Digitalis himself, eventually set out in search of the Author — a mythical being believed to determine the fate of mankind…

As I write these lines, the search for the Author still continues … knowing that it will never end…

One must imagine Sokrates Digitalis happy.
