The Pursuit of Ethical AI — Murat DUrmus

The pursuit of ethical AI in a world where ethics often plays a secondary role is a paradox. It’s like looking for a saint in a den of thieves or hoping for a lotus flower to bloom in a desert. The irony runs deep and is palpable. We expect our creations to have a moral compass, but we, as their creators, often do not. As Thoreau once said:

“There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one striking at the root.”

We are busy fixing the branch of artificial intelligence while ignoring the tree of human behavior, which remains untouched and whose roots are firmly planted in the soil of hypocrisy and expediency.

We must start with ourselves first!

The text is an excerpt from the book Beyond the Algorithm: An Attempt to Honor the Human Mind in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (Wittgenstein Reloaded)
