Why AI Ethics is so challenging — THE AI THOUGHT BOOK

As an AI ethicist, one must have profound knowledge in many areas. You have to be familiar with the technology, the underlying philosophy, the ethical and moral aspects, and its psychological and sociological implications for humans, the environment, and society. Not to forget the legal and privacy challenges; last but not least, you should have methodological knowledge and conceptual skills to translate the requirements into a framework to implement them in practice.

Most people who advocate for transparent, fair, and 'ethical' AI are aware that we have neglected or ignored these issues in many areas of technology, business, and research. Hence, many AI Ethicists are motivated to get it right from the start, at least when it comes to AI, Knowing that AI will touch and transform all areas of our lives in the future.

AI ethics is highly interdisciplinary and dynamic. For me, it is one of the most essential, exciting, and promising fields of activity for the future.

I still stand by my statement below, which I exclaimed several years ago.

"Graduates of philosophy and human sciences will be in high demand in the future to investigate AI-related processes through a human lens."
