Why most ethical AI guidelines fall short
Many national AI ethics guidelines tend to lack practicality, often emphasizing high-level principles excessively. What we genuinely require are ethics-by-design approaches tailored to specific use cases. It is imperative that ethics, along with its implications for society, be integral at every stage of the implementation process, from ideation and design to implementation and roll-out.
Ethical considerations must adopt a proactive stance, anticipating potential issues rather than merely reacting to past incidents that have caused harm. A bottom-up and interdisciplinary approach involving incorporating human sciences becomes essential to realize truly ethical AI.
